Ignorance towards the other games than cricket?
Now that even IPL happened, its quite clear that every child will run to be cricketer, but what about other games, Hockey, football, chess you name it , every game is dying under the glamour of the cricket.

- No they aren't. Lots of people all over the world play games other than cricket. You need to look at the bigger picture a little more and remember that where you are isn't all there is to the world.
- Sania Mirza has grown up under similar circumstances, but has chosen tennis. Deepika played badminton, took to acting and modelling. ( now do not get back at Yuvi ;-) ) A child turns to a game on his own and with the fascilities available. Provide those. I see a lot of them playing basketball in schools. As school provides it. If you keep your TV tuned to soaps, that is where his mind will go. Does not mean he will be an actor. Tune in to News and he will get knowledge. You need not see Cricket matches. He too will not. Show him Tennis matches and Hockey or Football. Send him for coaching there. No one will stop you. Is that easy to tune in!
- Ask your question to the sports governing bodies., If Cricket is growing.. it is because.. it is managed well. How many international tournaments are played in Hockey,Football,Basketball, Volleyball etc., May be one or two in a year.It won't keep the people interested. Whereas in Cricket, there will be atleast 30-50 International Matches in a calender for India. Now people are thinking about Tennis mainly bçoz of Leander paes, Bhupathi, Sania.. and events like Chennai Open, ATP tour etc., It is not difficult to find a sponsor in India nowadays. But these lazy people don't manage sports and they put the blame on Cricket.
- It's not ignorance but simply disinterest , negligent & biased attitude from top to bottom........everybody is to blame for this situation, including us .
- Yes it is true.
- I don't think this will happen, IPL may not be around too long
- The society is driven by popularity and hence every kid would love to become a Sachin or Gilly or Lara or Sania or Federer. In India, since 1970s India winning away series in WI and Eng along with 1983 WC cup win changed everything. BCCI marketing took care, and prior to this happening, Indian Hockey was the pride jewel of India when it was assured of a Olympic medal. The gold medal was gone and then slowly it was silver and then bronze and later nothing. So do blame cricket for this....na na na .....it was their own talent and issues. So popularity is more important and making the child exposed to other sports is key. This depends on the upbringing and how parents and elders teach the kids what to chose. With the kind of money paid at cricketers I do not blame any kid for choosing cricket. It is tough sell on parents specially in India. Unless the message gets in kid's head, the problem is still there.
- Ha ha, what a joke!!! Cricket is so insignificant on a world wide scale it's not funny. How many 1st world countries play cricket? England...that's about it, and that is a bit of a stretch. The other nations are minnows, backwaters or 3rd world countries internationally.
